Credit card application denied due identity theft

After receiving several invitations I decided to accept Amazon’s offer to receive a Amazon VISA card.

A week later I received a letter from Chase Bank advising me that my application for the card had been denied because one of the credit bureaus (didn’t say which one) reported that I had been a victim of identity theft. I logged into my account on all three bureaus and found my credit rating to be 804 with no reference to a breach of any kind.
So, maybe I just don’t know how to look or perhaps the report Chase received is wrong. How should I proceed?

I would immediately check your three credit reports at annualcreditreport.com. There should be at least be a “hard enquiry” on your credit report reflecting the fraudulent activity if the Chase Bank information is correct. Do a credit freeze for the three credit bureaus and go to the identitytheft.gov website for the additional steps to take.
If there is no evidence of fraudulent activity on the credit reports then contact Chase to correct their apparent error
