Phantom Credit Cards

Has anyone heard about Phantom Credit Cards? Recently a credit card appeared on my Amazon account, it was an American Express, I don’t have an American Express Credit Card. It had my name on as the card holder and my adopted daughter’s name and address and the billing address and our old land line phone number for our home. I contacted American Express, spoke to 4 different people, there is not an account in my name or my husband’s name, I called customer service at Amazon, spoke to 3 different people and then 3 different people in the Fraud division. Finally after the 4th person in their Fraud division told me it was a Phantom credit card. This has caused rift in our family, I called my adopted daughter, told her what was going on, ask her if she knew anything about it, she accused me of saying I said she got into my account, which I did not and also I was blaming her, which I did not. I would like to know if anyone has ever heard of a Phantom credit card before. I have spoken to numerous people about it, no one has ever heard of it. Thanks for any help, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have never hear of phantom credit cards. Change your Amazon password and add authentication if you have not already done so.

thank you, and yes I have already done so. No one has heard of this. I deleted the it too.

per gemni AI:

“Phantom Credit Cards refer to fraudulent or fake credit card accounts that appear on a person’s credit report or online accounts without their knowledge or authorization. These accounts are often created by identity thieves using stolen personal information, such as names, addresses, and phone numbers, to open credit lines in someone else’s name. In the context provided, the individual discovered an American Express card on their Amazon account that they did not authorize, and neither they nor their spouse had an account with that card. This situation is an example of a phantom credit card, which can lead to confusion, financial risk, and emotional distress, especially when it impacts relationships due to misunderstandings or accusations.”

Also, Amazon supports passkeys so get one for Amazon.

Thank you appreciate the information. And yes, it has caused a family rift.
