In Dec 2023, I bought the $499 hearing aids from Sams. The technician did a great job of testing and explaining, but after I bought the hearing aids she didn’t explain hooking up to my phone, cleaning or anything else. I guess she figured I could read the manual. In Sept 2025, I volunteered for a hearing aid study at the University of Central Florida. I wore $4,000 hearing aids for 6 weeks. They were worse than the $499 ones. They made “s” sound like “esh”. But I did learn a lot about hooking up to my phone, bluetooth etc. I made an appt with a new technician at Sam’s to learn more about my hearing aids. Unless something better comes up, I will definitely buy these again if I lose or wear out my Lucid $499 hearing aids. I have very small ear canals and would not be able to wear CIC, they wouldn’t fit.
It seems like your $499 Sam’s Club hearing aids are working particularly well, especially since your ear canals are small. It’s very common in the beginning stages of an appointment to conduct testing and fitting; therefore, it was a great idea to have follow-up time with the technician to have a phone set up and troubleshoot Bluetooth, clean, etc.
Since your experience involving hearing aid comparisons to the higher-priced $4,000 aids illustrates that cost doesn’t equate; fit, as we learned through the study, and hearing needs are the most important. Additionally, through those tips you were given, you can optimize features thought to be lost through the use of your Lucid aids.
Overall, good sound, fit and support from your hearing aids, as well as follow-up time help determine that you are maximizing it all.
