Research before ordering from Amazon’s Woot!

I had never heard of Woot until reading Clark’s article two weeks ago about ways to save on Amazon. Honestly, I didn’t expect much from it, as I had previously had a mediocre experience with Haul, but I was drawn in when I saw a vase and a rug elsewhere seen for more money. I figured if Woot is owned by Amazon, there was credibility, and if Clark recommended it, it’s reliable. So I ordered.

Well, the shipping info immediately gave two estimated arrival dates, with the vase showing a 3 week arrival. It actually came in a week and it’s perfect, especially given the broken & shoddy packing! That elevated my excitement to receive the rug! The rug’s date has not only passed with no show, but the shipping info doesn’t update! It continues to say “Preparing for Shipment.” Yet Amazon sells the same rug for a slightly higher price with two day shipping! After researching Woot more online, the reviews are scathing! If only I had researched first myself!

What you should know:

1. Amazon CS will NOT help you. Woot’s CS is practically non-existent. Basically, nobody can tell you where your merch is. CS treats Woot like it’s the black sheep criminal of the family no one wants to associate with!

  1. Other reviewers talked about how their merchandise took weeks or months to deliver without a single shipping update on site or via email. Nothing. No communication.
  2. Other reviewers talked about receiving partial orders, broken merch, getting cancelled weeks later, and/or empty boxes arriving with no chance of refund. So I will wait for another week. Even if my rug does show, I still won’t update this complaint because my warnings are meant to help others, but honestly, I’m feeling uneasy whether I’ll ever get it, or more importantly, if I’d get my money back. I came here to not only help others, but to make the Clark Howard team aware that Woot should not be recommended so readily to readers without knowledge of Woot’s reputation so that a warning could beware of potential pitfalls. I love Clark & won’t stop reading his emails, but I’ll think twice before diving into a recommendation without researching further first.
