Looking to Replace Living Room Furniture

Hello Clarkies,

I beg for your assistance! My wife and I have been dying to replace our living room furniture. Our furniture is now almost 6 years old and we were never super in love with it in the past. Costco is selling couches my wife has wanted for a very long time but the brand (lovesac) is very expensive. I was thinking if there is a time to get them, it would be right now at costco where we can return them and they are 40% cheaper than normal. However, our current leather couches are fine but uncomfortable to sit in. We could “pay off” our couches by directing our monthly savings to the cost of these but have more than 6 months savings if we use our savings for the purchase (so savings or debt are not factors). I’m curious how my fellow clarkies handle these situations? What are the criteria and stipulations we set to not spend outside our means? Any input is much appreciated!

Furniture that will be sat on needs to be quite comfortable unless you are furnishing an office waiting room setting (and then it ought to be). Higher quality furniture will last much longer than cheaper furniture.

Decide the size needed to fit the space and use. Then seek comfort. Then quality construction and materials.

If you purchase a pair of shoes that last 6 months for $20, vs a pair that will last 10 years for $100, which is really the better deal?
