In this article, Best Western came in 6th with a score of 77. While I love BW (clean, friendly helpful staff, great breakfast), I am unable to stay there anymore since I’ve developed mobility issues and need a handicap-equipped room. NONE of their hotels in the St. Louis area have any grab bars in the bathhrooms . I called corporate to see if any of their hotels followed ADA guidelines and was told that they were “grandfathered in” and therefor were not required to provide this service. They did point out that there was one BW about 15 miles away that was handicap-accessible; but when I called to confirm, the manager told me it was only for hearing-impaired ! In this day and age where more senior citizens are traveling, one would think that most hotels would begin installing a grab bar in most rooms just for basic safety. So, bottom line, it’s hard to understand why a good hotel that claims to promote top-quality hospitality doesn’t care about basic safety.
Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt let you select an accessible room when you book on their website. I’d skip Best Western.
