YouTube TV 2025 increase thoughts

Seems in early-2020, YT TV was $64.99…then went to $72.99 in Mar 2023…and now to $82.99 in Jan 2025 => ~28% increase in 5 years. Hopefully this trajectory doesn’t remain linear and streaming increases start to parallel “normal inflation”.
We were with Sling (plus Sports pkg in football season) to try to save a little, but quickly learned that if we wanted watch a sports event on multiple tv’s, then Sling would not work for us. At least with YT TV, we can expand to 4 concurrent streamings for a $4.99/mo premium (vs required to add a full subscription with Sling). So for us for now, YT TV will remain our choice and we’ll begrudgingly pay the new $83/mo. Though I’m tempted to cancel and start new subscription with a new email to capture the 3-mo promo reduction

Hello. Yes, it is difficult to express my thoughts with limited words here. We cut the cord. dishes, etc, and now all streaming services are up with the prices, like we had before. YT TV is the ONLY ONE that is doing it for the 3rd time in the past 5 years. Their justification(s) are senseless, baseless, and to the most - humiliated the customers. For Mr. Clark $10 increment (or $120/y) may be nothing, but for me as a senior, retired on a very limited budget it is way too much. I am sure we do not need those 100 channels or any in addition, we probably watch to the most of 20-25 of them. There are not much alternative options (all got the $ up). I like channel arrangement, but it is NOT worth an extra $10/mo. Also, I asked so many times YT TV CS about discounts for seniors, veterans, and students, of course no reply at least to acknowledge the question. Conclusion: Nobody will listen or make changes at all. The dilemma is “To be or not to bve”.and the answer is a personal decision.

Maybe look at Sling – it’s considerably less expensive and has all the main channels. We liked it, except the limited number of concurrent screens (still have kids still in the house). Clark.com has a “streaming tv tool” that will guide you to your options based on the channels you watch. There are definitely less expensive options out there – good luck my friend!!

Thank you, I am doing my homework now We do not have any children or grandchildren at home. Thank you again for the advise.

If you chat with customer service via the YouTube TV app tell them you read about other customers pretending to cancel and getting an offer to keep their current price for 6 months and want the same discount. I just did that and they gave me a promo code that worked to get that same discount.

I have never understood watching live television on a streaming service. I watch streaming services so I can watch when I want and pause when I needed.
I know some like to pay high prices to watch overpaid athletes playing games. Seeing as my interest in professional sports is smaller than an electron, it is extremely doubtful I ill ever pay for YouTube or other streaming services (outside out Amazon Prime).
I like the non-pay version of YouTube on my tablet… I get one 5 to 10 second commercial at the start of the video and that’s it.

I watch TV maybe 2-3 hours a day, and like you, I am not addicted to professional sports and neither is my wife. Much of our TV viewing time is spent on one or two long-running reality shows that are available on Paramount Plus. The balance is PBS, $60 a year, and recorded OTA both of which we often record an skip over commercials and promos.

I can understand the group mentality of professional sports addiction that football and golf present, but luckily neither me or my wife fell victim to them. Having earlier in my life participated in lots of water sports, I do like to watch the occasional surfing or sailing contest.

My main interest is older sitcoms, documentaries, and movie comedies. Every time I hear someone say “we won”, I want to ask the person just how long as he been on the team.
Just looking at the local times in my area, I can tell you that the teams don’t give a darn about the fans except as a source of money.

I think the reason for the popularity of professional football in the US is the same as the global popularity for soccer and rugby.

I think it fulfills an ancient and very basic human need to belong to a group of like-minded people and realize the benefits of camaraderie and companionship that the tribe provides.

Present-day sports is filled with the language of battles, wars and tribal conflicts. If you’ve ever seen the NZ All-Blacks perform their Maori Haka routine before starting a game you’ll see the connection between today and the same menacing ritual dance the NZ Maori performed for Captain James Cook in 1769 when the Maori invited Cook’s men ashore so they could crush their skulls with Patus (war clubs.)

I planned to drop my youtubetv account, went to settings to cancel and listed cost as the reason for cancellation. I was given a promo $10 discount for 6 months. This occured on 12/13/24.Give it a try to possibly remain at $72.99 for a while.

Thanks Lew! I just did the same – worked like a charm! Thanks for saving me $60  Great community here!

It worked for me, Thanks Lew

Use X platform to complain, at least you’ll get it out there and possibly some feed back.

I went ahead and cancelled YT TV. I was watching it for sports, but I realized I get a majority of the NFL games through Hulu, prime, and antenna. NHL I get through ESPN which is that Disney Plus bundle with Hulu.

But to echo what has been said before. It has turned back into cable but without the actual cable. To be frank I am not surprised.

My question is why do companies always worry more about offering temporary price breaks for new customers (ok, I know this answer, but…) than providing price breaks or freezes for loyal existing customers? Very frustrating. It’s becoming increasingly hard to justify continuing with them.

I’m in the same boat. YouTube TV has become ridiculous and we canceled it. The new Fox/ESPN package coming out in late August looks like it might be the answer to my quandary. Check it out.

Hello. I have raised my concerns about YTTV a long time ago. Being a 6-year member to their service, I realized that it is about time to get out of their poor services: 1. Check their history to see how much for short time they increased the prices, I have to say, for no reason, and no substantial need at all; 2. Customer service is one of the worst here in the US; 3. They have hidden numbers you do not even know. In one word, I do not recommend this service to anybody. Stay away from YTTV, there are better, not expensive services.

Despite being a gadget freak (way beyond Clark), I’ve been with Comcast so long, my original cable company was existed before Comcast was anyone’s strategy and then was bought out. Now I have TV, 4 mobile lines, and Internet. There’s plenty of savings opportunities, but they never seem to work out. For example:

Internet: Comcast was the only game in town. None of the mobile phone providers work well here, and the land line company doesn’t have infrastructure. Prices aren’t awful but keep rising. LiveOak fiber just arrived, and I had it installed. Planned to unbundle. Unfortunately, fiber service is well under the 2gbs tier speed and only one third to one half of my Comcast speeds. This is bizarre. Head to head, prices are very close, so no reason yet to change. I told LiveOak I’d stay with it per month, but so far, they have no explanation.

Mobile phones: With multiple lines, Comcast is the best deal going here. 4 lines @ $25 each unlimited everything, hot spot, decent international and so forth. US Mobile was next best for what I want and offers some operational advantages. To get a deal comparable to Comcast requires paying for a whole year in advance for all lines. US Mobile is an MVNO for all three networks, so there is money to be saved on ATT or T-Mobile, but Verizon is strongest here.

It’s neck and neck, but that brings us to TV. Originally, I could have saved nearly $100 on TV by unbundling. The savings weren’t in the Comcast packages as much in not needing the equipment they require or paying the fees on top of the package price. Planned to use YouTube (no bargain anymore) but the Disney/ESPN dispute began, so I am waiting. Looked at other services, but then I have to use an antenna and on and on and the combo of packages required to see the 6 or 7 channels we watch offered no savings. Called Comcast, and magically, they found a way to save $45 monthly.

It’s never as simple and the consumer people make it sound.

Head to head

Finally dumped YTTV. The Disney/ESPN debacle of late threw me over the edge. I got the Disney+/ESPN/Hulu bundle for sports and movies and a separate Discovery+ subscription for $5.99/mo since I watch some things on that channel

As we’re all aware. YTTV was just getting too expensive while the service was getting worse.
