More Perfect Union: "What Dollar General Doesn’t Want You To Know"

My wife caught an overcharge a few weeks ago. After bringing it up the cashier seemed clueless as to how to adjust it…pretty much told that that’s what’s in the computer (like in this clip). It wasn’t much so my wife said she let it slide. Last summer I noticed a frozen novelty was selling at DG for less than I’d seen at any other store so I bought one. I didn’t notice until looking at the receipt later that night I was charged more for it. That was on my one visit to a DG in '23. Now that I’m hearing how widespread this issue is my wife and I will try to totally avoid them. As a long-ago retail manager/ retail geek, I’ve always loathed these stores anyway.

No offense, thelawofduhh, but at least back in the day, Clark Howard shopped at Dollar General quite a bit.

I have been to a lot of stores that charge me more than the price on the shelf, I just tell the clerk at checkout and they always give me the shelf price. I always thought this was a law that they must abide by.
It seems to me a lot of people just don’t care and that hurts everyone.
