I’ve been a prepaid Mint customer for 7 years. Mint just came out with a 5G home internet plan cheaper than T-Mobile, especially as a phone customer, as low as $30/mo. Using the same Gateway modem/router and towers as T-Mobile. Can anyone share info if they are on T or M home? Former comments go back to 2022. Thanks
I just recently decided to try out the Mint Home Internet. I was happy with it until all 3 of our family members were on it then it slowed down too much for us to use it during the early evening hours. The kid was playing games and doing her usual stuff, the wife was on her phone and streaming you tube tv and I was on my computer browsing the internet. I decided to hook back up my cable internet since this 5G internet was not going to work out for us. All the bars except for one was lit up on the 5G gateway so I was getting a great signal with speeds up to 500mbps down earlier in the day. I wish I could have tested this out for a few more days but don’t like family members complaining to me. Once the kid has moved on I will probably try this out again in the future.
Youtube can be adjusted for maximum quality or less, and less uses less bandwidth.
Gaming, depending if it is a live action type, can use lots of bandwidth.
Just a thought.
I’ve had TMobile 5G Home Internet for well over a year. I’m super happy with it. I love that there are no cables coming into the house anymore. No more dealing with coax, cable boxes, etc. $50 per month. Includes all junk fees. It doesn’t matter where I put the box in the house. I always get 4 out of 5 bars. I have a teenage gamer and we stream to multiple smart TVs. Never an issue. I do know your experience can depend on how far you are from their tower and if there are obstructions, etc.
With TMobile they will ship you their box to try out for two weeks. If it doesn’t work for you simply return it. No risk. Mint likely does the same.
The future is wireless. 6G, 7G. It will only get better.
5G home internet plans are 300 Mbps and 300 Mbps, and watching HD video consumes around 10 Mbps. If you have a good signal, unless multiple people are using the service, they are just fine.
Keep in mind that if you have an older router, each channel might not even support more than 10 Mbps, no matter how fast the service!
Data throttling and deprioritization vary based on your cellular provider and the plan you use. MVNOs, like Mint, usually have deprioritized data when the network is busy. The cell companies provide the best throughput to their premium customers and the reseller companies get slower speeds and priority. Your satisfaction will depend on your data usage (time of day and volume), and how busy your local cell tower is. @c200ns what actual download speeds did you observe with Mint Home Internet?
The download speeds were hitting up to 500mbps at one point but mostly well over 200mbps. The upload speeds were at least 20mbps if I remember right. Once all 3 family members started doing their normal internet usage after 5pm we started having problems. I noticed a 5mb file I was uploading was taking much longer to complete and then web browsing was slowing down. I wish I could have tested it out longer but the kid had an on line class starting up soon so I had to go back with my Spectrum cable 100 mbps service. When the kid leaves home in a couple more years I do plan on trying Mint Internet again because I know I didn’t give it a long enough test to be sure and I do like a deal. I have been on the old Time Warner Cable Internet Everyday Low Price service since about 2012 where it started at $14.99 a month with 2mbps down and 1mbps up. The speed and price has been increasing over the years to where its $41 something per month with 100mbps/10mbps. Sooner or later the price will creep up to whatever full price is but its been a good ride.
I think 200 - 500 MB/S would not be enough for us… we like the 1GB service. It would be hard to go back and downgrade video resolution, etc. Thanks for the feedback, we will certainly keep watching.
Same here.Been on the Time Warner Everyday, when it was $14.99.Spectrum been so agressive on raising price,I’m looking for alternatives. Will check out Mint.
