Is identity theft insurance worth it?

Is identity theft insurance advised? An IT person told me that many people that he knows who purchased identity theft insurance suddenly were victims.

I don’t know anyone that has been a victim of identity theft and I know a lot of people. Also, everyone I know has their credit reports locked. I don’t think you need to do more than that combined with long unique random passwords on your online accounts…

Thank you so much for your reply.

For most individuals, identity theft insurance is often not worth it. These policies may not cover the actual money lost, but rather only reimburse fees associated with documents, notary services, legal expenses, and so on. A more effective measure is to implement a free credit freeze with each of the three major credit bureaus (preferable to a credit lock).
This artice covers other measures you can do the prevent identity theft.
