It is tax season again but Clark’s favorite freefilefillableforms.com is not working for me. As usual I need a new account every year. However, this year I cannot register an account any more. After I entered my info, phone, id, and password, passed the captcha, it just directly sent me back to create account page.
Has anyone experienced similar issue? I have tried in private mode and a different browser.
I have used Free Tax USA for the last three years because it is easier to use and less of a pain than TurboTax. Sometimes I felt like TurboTax was deliberately causing issues so I would have to pay for help.
We used a freeware excel spreadsheet this year and really liked it. You fill in your W-2s and 1099s (separate sheets in excel), it will copy those numbers onto the right lines on the right forms (separate sheets for those too), and do the calculations for you. No stupid questions! The bad news is that you can’t print out the sheets when you’re done and mail them in because they don’t look enough like IRS forms, so we just copied the numbers onto the IRS forms we downloaded. We usually do our returns by hand, and this was a nice way to confirm our calculations, plus we could easily play what-if-we-do-roth-conversion games.
Yes, Free File Fillable Forms is still available, but account creation/login has been glitchy this season—try later or use IRS Free File partner options instead.
