Economical clear braces?

I need to wear a mouth guard at night so I thought I would straighten my teeth while I’m at it. Any recommendations of what company to go with and how much the cost might be? Clark has are article on them, but it is 7 years old.

I wear a mouth guard at night which my dentist made from a mold of my teeth. It is just on the upper teeth but it definitely keeps my teeth from shifting. If you want braces and/or a good mouth guard to keep your teeth from shifting, you need to talk to a dentist and it won’t be cheap. I don’t think the off-the-shelf guards are going to do what you want.

You are right, off-the-shelf mouth guards are not what I want. I have those and I think they are causing gum recession. Since I need to wear a mouth guard (and need to get a custom mouth guard) I’m looking for plastic braces/aligners to kill two birds with one stone. There are many companies out there that can be much cheaper than what my dentist offers (impressions can be made with kits through the mail), so I’m trying to find a good option that is also well priced.

You are making a big mistake. Moving teeth is not for shyster corporations that use DIY impressions sent though the mail. Did you not hear that Smile Direct Club bankrupted because of all the problems they caused? Problems like causing tooth loss, nerves of teeth going dead, and gum recession.

Second of all, clear aligners are only good for a very limited type of case. Most require tooth width reduction. Just how do you hope to accomplish that? Brackets and arch wires are still the gentlest and most effective way of moving teeth.

Off-the shelf mouthguards are junk that often encourage grinding. The final orthodontic aligner is NOT a good mouthguard. You will wear through it.

I have done orthodontic since 1986 and general dentistry since 1977. I know what I am talking about.
