Cruise insurance

Thoughts on medical insurance with evacuation when going on a 2 week cruise out of Amsterdam? I have never been on a cruise before. Thanks in advance.

I have no particular knowledge in this area, but we just went on a 2 week trip (not a cruise) to Scandinavia and I had to make the same decision. Some things I thought about:

Age and health. Do you think you might have a medical emergency? Ships usually have a clinic and medical staff on board for minor issues.

Are you doing any sports or excursions where you might get hurt?

What does your insurance cover? Do your credit cards cover anything?

There are probably other things to consider. We decided against purchasing the insurance.

My spouse and have been travelling overseas for over 50 years and have been doing 2 trips per year for 7-8 weeks during the past 11 years although only one cruise trip and what we do of course may not fit your situation. Make sure your domestic health insurance does not include overseas coverage; very likely no coverage. We started adding overseas medical coverage about 20 years ago and have used the coverage on 2 occasions during our travels. The evacuation portion of overseas medical policies is limited and 5 years ago we added a second policy so if we are hospitalized we are covered for evacuation to an American hospital of our choice.

Thank you!

Good to know. Thank you!
