I have a credit card that has a benefit of price protection. The provider of the benefit told me that I was not covered at the time of purchase of an item I thought was covered. According to the provider, I was covered before the purchase and on the day I made the claim but not on the day of purchase. According the the bank who issued the credit card, I was covered the entire time, but they can not help because the benefit provider is a third party.
Basically, I used the card because the bank said it included a benefit that I did not get and the bank will not help me. I know there are laws covering how a bank handles your money but are there laws that would require the bank to deliver what it advertises as card benefits?
good day:
I suggest submitting a compliant with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I made a complaint against a CC company after they would not delete a charge by a scammer (travelassist) associated with a bogus airline rebooking fee of $750 The CC denied my complaint. I then put in a complaint to CFPB and within 10 days, the CC company granted me a $750 credit.
CFPB was helpful in an initial phone call and the online complaint process is consumer friendly.
Good luck.

I was charged $1,000 on two cards for a $45 cab ride in Cancun. The driver said the reader was not working. Amex and Citi said I’m responsible. Amex accepted an X as a signature. I never sign with an X. CIti said well you gave them the card and you did get a ride to the airport. I always followed advice to use credit not debit and both companies are stiffing me. I’ve been robbed twice. by the taxi company and Amex and Citi I filed a complain with consumer finance and they are not helping and Amex still won’t reverse the charges. What can I do?
That has to be frustrating for you. A couple of thoughts and sorry for being long winded:

We had another issue a few years ago receiving Paul McCartney tickets only a few hours before the show but the Venue was 3 hours away. The CC company focused on the fact we got what we bargained for, namely the tickets, albeit late, which is similar to what was told to you - you got the ride (but not for the price quoted). In this case which was before I was aware of CFB, we went to Connecticut Consumer Protection, found a knowledgeable and helpful person (which is always the key) and got a full refund of almost $1K. Hopefully, your state has a helpful Consumer Protection department.

Further to my above post, I am surprised CFP was not helpful but it was what it was. Consider calling to see what CFB is focusing on for complaints, if you haven’t already.
Although the facts differ from my case (as I didn’t get any benefit from the scammer), since I was going after the CC company, my complaint emphasized the CC company’s short comings. Since your complaint will be sent to the CC company, suggest that maybe CFP should start a larger investigation into CC companies not doing more to help consumers, like the State of NY did with a specific CC company - maybe that will have the CC think, “let’s settle and avoid a bigger investigation.”
A few comments from my complaint:
.
(i) I do not think the CC company did reasonable due diligence … but rather took the easy way out while reaping its share of the charge.
(ii) CC should have known better and, as a credit card company with sophisticated financial savvy individuals working for it, CC was and continues to be in the best position to see through the approach taken by the scammer against me and presumably others and to help stop scam charges. CC is missing the big picture. As a large financial company, they need to do better.
(iii) As a result of acting on this complaint, hopefully the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau can also getting the CC company’s attention to the BIG PICTURE in scams and, in the future, also protect its other cardholders from scams.
Good luck.
I also recommend that you file a complaint with the consumer fraud division of the attorney general’s office in the state where you reside. In most states, the complaint can be filed on-line. The AG will send a copy of your complaint to the named party and ask for a response within 10 days. Can be very effective.
