I’ve had UVerse/ATT service for years. Uverse was long deprecated in favor of Direct TV but we are still grandfathered in. Prices have risen steeply as they try to get us to change over. Direct TV packages look somewhat less expensive so looking for some feedback on their service.
On the Internet side…we get a ridiculous 50 mb connection for $67 per month. There is no ATT Fiber in our area but I’ve heard the other ISP’s aren’t exactly epic! Any thoughts?
I am in the process of helping a family member shift away from UVerse. They are definitely pricing the cable and phone services to motivate people to switch.
I assume you are talking about Direct TV satellite. They also have DirectTV streaming but I doubt it would work too well with 50mb download.
I had DirectTV satellite and it worked great except during heavy rain which wasn’t very often. I switched to DirectTV stream when they installed fast internet in our neighborhood because it was cheaper. I am happy with it as well.
In our case, I’d want to switch to Direct TV wired rather than satellite. Try to replicate the menu experience we have now. Not the streaming app on the TV, but some version of their cable box.
That is why I went with DirectTV stream. You can get a box that is similar to cable/satellite boxes in functionality. It is called an Osprey box and you can get it from Walmart or Ebay for about $40. They also have a newer box called Gemini but it is about $200 and from what I have read is not much better. I have two of the Osprey boxes and they work fine for me. Just be aware there are two versions of streaming. One you have to sign a contract and they rent you a Gemini box. I went with the one where you don’t sign the contract and I purchased my own boxes.
Yes, I clicked on your link and put in my address and that is the price it gave me. I have 400mb internet now for $90/month thru Spectrum which is a little high but I don’t really have any other options.
There are certain companies on my dead list.. Direct TV is one of them.. We had them and then it took an act of God to. Closeout. the contract and get out of any future Billings.
Thanks all for the various thoughts. As an aside, I was able to reduce the monthly cost for a year by talking with their tier 2/loyalty/retention department. That gives me a little bit of time to figure out next move. Thinking I need to upgrade Internet to faster service and then check out streaming versions that are similar to cable experience we have now.
