AT&T sent us the “dear customer, inflation blah blah, $5 more per month” so I cancelled and brought in Xfinity NOW Internet 100 mbps for $30 per month in the Houston market. It works fine! Flawless video streaming onto our devices. Now that I’m retired, I no longer need Gigabit home internet for work. $30 per month is cheap as far as I’m concerned.

That’s a good deal. 100 speed is fine. You could hav ed do e bandwidth issues during the Super Bowl or other heavy viewing times, not much. AT&T is getting rid of everything on copper wires, so if you have DSL or a Landline, and give if up chances are you cannot ever get it back. Not sure why you would. I’m on ATT fiber with their lowest speed of 300 ($50/month) and it is just fine. For $30/month I’d drop to 100 speed if it offered.
I paid $35 for 150 Mbps from Xfinity. I wish I can switch to the $30 deal, but it is not offered in my area.
Xfinity is fine as long as you have a good deal (aka new homeowner discount) and no trees around that could interfere with service during storms. New and coming will be a " starlink" competition from Amazon hopefully next year. No more tree, clouds, weather interference!
We saved money a year ago switching from AT&T to a local internet provided (High Desert Internet Services, if you live in Northern NV). If you need more than the 100 mbps, we get up to 500 mbps for $50/mo - that’s including all fees, taxes, etc. I’ll keep an eye out next year to see that new service from Amazon.
Funny you should say that…we got on a low income plan with AT&T, ( we are retired seniors) for 30 a month; then the program ran out, but AT&T said they would continue our service for that price- very nice. The only thing is that when we moved here, they don’t carry fiber here…only the other companies, who charge $60-70 a month, which is what all our neighbors have…but they also have fiber, and we only have the old copper wire- yes, you heard that right. Our internet service seems fine…not lightning fast, but it’s fine,. Those other companies that are neighbors have, do not have a $30 plan for us. Oh, well.
That actually sounds like a pretty good deal, especially if the service is reliable enough for what you use it for. If you’re mostly browsing, streaming, and doing normal everyday things, 100 Mbps can be plenty. I’d probably stick with the $30 plan too rather than paying twice as much just to get faster speeds I may not really notice.
