Best Refrigerator Which One is Really Worth It?

I am in the market for the best refrigerator and I’d love to get some advice before making a purchase. My main priorities are reliability, energy efficiency, long-term durability, and consistent cooling performance. A spacious interior with flexible storage for a family would also be a big plus. After reading expert reviews from trusted sources like Consumer Reports, Good Housekeeping, and Wirecutter, two models consistently stand out as top recommendations:

A couple of things jumped out at me while researching refrigerators recently.

Based on Consumer Reports ratings, both models have some drawbacks worth considering:

Personally, I’m not a big fan of Samsung refrigerators based on what I’ve seen and heard from owners and repair technicians over the years, although everyone’s experience can vary.

If reliability and long-term ownership are your top priorities, I’d also take a close look at some of the highly rated Kenmore Elite models, including:

For example, I’m currently using a refrigerator with "flex sheving and I’m still amazed at how difficult it is to fit two half-gallons of milk without constantly rearranging shelves. Sometimes usability matters just as much as the specs on paper.

Good luck with your search. I’d focus less on the smart features and more on reliability, repairability, and how well the interior layout fits your family’s actual grocery habits. Those are the things you’ll appreciate years from now.

GE claims they have made the most reliable refrigerators and that they are still made in the U.S. But,that claim could be for older, less complicated refrigerators.

The appliance repairmen on Youtube say that modern refrigerators are not built to last and that many many new owners are disappointed in all the gadgets. In-the-door ice-makers will probably fail within 1-2 years. The three such repairmen I have followed say buy the freezer on top, no frills model if you don’t want to buy another one in just a few years. You can see that on Youtube yourself.

I have a GE refrigerator 21 years old and still running. Few if any are made in the US anymore. Energy standards have necessitated small compressor motors running more time, which reduces reliability. Gone are the days where a refrigerator would last 40 years.

FWIW, Consumer Reports rates LG the highest.

By the way, please check out how easy it is to clean the condenser coils, which should be done regularly. On my GE, I must take the refridge completely out and remove an access panel in the back, which is quite a pain.

Dirty coils drag down performance!
