I’m not able to update with my version of windows. Not real concerned with new versions of windows, being i don’t like change and no longer need all the new technology.
My question is, can I use Avast to keep desktop protected enough not to worry about window updates?
Are you on Windows 7? If so, there was a patch that allowed many of us to keep getting updates, but I am not sure you can go back now and add it.
Here is an interesting item. I have windows 7 and although it says that my system is not capable of Windows 10, it was.
BACKGROUND: I have many many Win 7 and earlier programs which I need and use. My backup program quit and I was unable to find a solution because reinstalling/updating the operating system with a fresh copy might not help.
I read where I could load and run a copy of Win10 on a memory stick without having to re-partition my hard drive. I used RUFUS and a download of a valid copy of Win10 on to the memory stick and rebooted from it. It is working. I was not able to license the Win10 under the old Win7 license, so I just spent the $8 and got a valid Microsoft Windows 10 license for that version.
Now once a week I will boot into Win10, perform the backup and boot back to Win7 when it is done.
Yes, I know there are other ‘backup’ programs, but I am using Backblaze to store terabytes in the cloud for a fixed fee, so buying more hard drives at Costco or Amazon gets old fast.
