I’m keeping it. You can share an Amazon Prime membership with a friend and then you can both have access to Prime video. The two for one makes this cheaper than each having separate service, Amazon Prime in it’s self quite nice and affordable when two people share it.

I didn’t pay attention to the price hike until I saw it on my credit card bill for January. I’ll keep it this year but won’t renew it next year. While some Prime video was good, I also have Netflix and only need one streaming service. Besides, it’s not great with kids. When my grandson comes over and I want to watch a movie, it seems like I have to pay for the movie since it’s not included in prime. I’d rather just go to a Roku movie station and buy from them.

Now, I am looking at it as Netflix plus Free shipping.

I share Amazon Prime benefits with my dad. Does Amazon’s Prime Video appear to be more sympathetic to older movies and TV shows than other streaming services?

There is some overlap between Prime and free Services like Tubi.
If I use Roku search to find a Movie, I will often see it on both Prime and a free Service but Prime does not have Commercials,
Prime seems to charge for the newer and more on demand movies.
But then, Would I keep Prime for the Free Shipping without the Movies? Probably!

I buy enough car and truck parts a year that the free shipping makes it worth while. Even with the free shipping, I always price compare.

I have some issues with Amazon as a company and its management, but its products and services keep earning my loyalty. During the peak era of the pandemic, it saved this Geezer and wife from many trips to retail establishments and possible infections from close contacts. With the inflation, particularly with fuel, the savings in trips to the hardware store, Walmart, etc., have made the membership worthwhile, too. And yes, we do find some decent content on the streaming service, particularly in the less current stuff, which is often better anyway. A few of their original offerings were outstanding, like Bosch, Mrs. Maisel, and Goliath. We tend to like the hour-long limited series offerings.

I have two major Amazon distribution centers near me. When purchasing, I see “free” is maybe Friday, and prime is Thur, just saving one day. Not worth it. Even with ‘free’ Friday, it’s common to get here Tues or Wed.
And I have a top Comcast package providing a gazillion channels

Cancelled because of politics. There are too many FREE or Free with Ads services and I discovered long ago from using VPNs with the paid providers so you can see other countries’ content, that the Motion Picture industry just cycles which countries get which movies for a time period. Eventually most of the movies cycle through one or more of the free services.

We’ve had prime acct for years for ordering business and personal, and really can’t depend on the 2 day delivery anymore unless you subscribe to get the item on a regular basis, which is almost never needed. And I’d rather order when I see the need coming up than hope I might need it everytime it comes. It is SO much less than what it offered years ago. We used to be able to watch most movies free and now we go to Roku, Pureflix and other channels bc there are so many more options. It seems like most of the time that we want to watch something its not included in the Prime membership anymore. I always compare prices and when it will arrive, and more and more Walmart marketplace is coming out ahead. My preference is to order through Walmart and Home Depot (those type items) if possible.
Now, Amazon Prime membership is not a given for me. If we’re not getting it in 2 days anymore, especially for business…what difference does it make. Often if we do need it in 2 days there is now an extra cost for that. The price is not necessarily cheaper. I just dont know!

No, I don’t use any paid streaming services anymore. I found good kodi on firestick and decided to try it. I also started to use VPN while watching movies. I also started to use VPN I found here https://www.firesticktricks.com/best-vpn-kodi.html while watching movies. It does not only help to protect my data but also allows me to find anything I want.
Responding in 2023 after reading the updated article. I cannot justify Prime. Most people justify it on shipping, however, shipping is almost always free assuming you spend $25. Never have difficulty spending $25 on things I actually need (not just random stuff to reach that limit), so I spend nothing or almost nothing on shipping in a year. Now there is occasionally something I want that doesn’t have free shipping, but I will then explore other options before buying. Yes, I think I’d like Prime Video but I have another streaming service and don’t want to pay that much for another. Not worth the money.

well if it keeps going up in price i might just cancel it. having said that i HATE going to any stores and back when I first heard about Amazon Prime I was thrilled. try before you buy does not excite me because you can buy something, get it shipped to you free and if you do not like it or it does fit you ship it back for free. as for Prime video I do not watch it much. But I have bought movies that I know I will watch more then once in the early release movies. I mostly watch documentaries and Amazon keeps the same ones on for a long time.
over all I buy almost everything on Amazon Prime and the free shipping pays for my membership within four months> and yes I do compare prices before i buy. and I never have had a problem returning anything I have boughten from Amazon. even if its after the return window and something all of a sudden does not work I will go on the customer service web site and od a live chat and have always gotten a credit on my account. now i do not do that a lot but its nice to know that if something goes wrong with whatever I buy after the return window i can still get a credit for it. and I do not mean something that i bought a year ago. its amazon or wally world and its a no brainer for me. amazon wins.
one more thing I forgot to talk about. its the free groceries delivery or in some cases people can order groceries online and pick them up. I guess if I was just ordering can goods i would consider it, but for everything else, there is no way i would want some stranger picking my fruit and veggies or meats. I have not gotten to a point where i cannot go myself. But then again I live within 2.5 miles of four major groceries stores and trust me I hate going to the grocery stores but while I am still able to drive and walk and talk and see I will shop for my food myself.
We are keeping prime, they have good stuff, and the shipping is the primary need. What we are doing is rotating. We have Prime and Disney/Hulu/ESPN Plus. We keep a third service on rotation, right now, its Netflix soon, we will drop that and do a few months with HBO then drop HBO and do a few months with one of the others. In the end, we enjoy the content of 5 to 7 services but only pay for 3 at any one time.
