Unable to unlock cell phone purchased @ Walmart online 3 years ago

I have been trying to figure out how to get my cell phone unlocked. I bought my Motorola phone from Walmart online in October of 2021. I called ATT prepaid and asked them to unlock it. I was told that my phone was not scanned right when I bought it from Walmart online. ATT said I had to go back to Walmart and get it scanned, then call ATT to get it unlocked. Three different people at ATT told me the same thing. I went to Walmart on Commons Blvd,. Dayton, Ohio 45414 to try to get it scanned. Cell phone department said they could not scan it unless I was buying it or returning it. They sent me to the service desk. The service desk told me the same thing. I explained everything to the cell phone department and the service desk just like I explained above. I asked to speak to the manager at the service desk. The guy said he was the manager. If he was the manager, he didn’t act like it. He got sort of nasty with me. I showed both, the cell phone department and the service desk, my online receipt of the purchase of the cell phone I have also called Motorola and they can’t help me either. ATT says I have to go to Walmart to have it scanned first before they can unlock it. Walmart won’t help me. Walmart says I have to go to ATT to have it unlocked. Motorola says I have to go to ATT. HELP! Any Advice?

When I had issues with a telephone number porting, I finally opened an FCC complaint. The FCC notified both parties and the problem magically was fixed in a very short time. You might try a complaint. In my case it is was called something like an ‘unofficial complaint’. That just causes the FCC to ask the parties to talk to each other and solve the problem before the FCC has to get physically involved.

Alternatively, you could threaten or actually open a small claims court case.

My first instinct on this is return the phone to Walmart. But you bought it 3 years ago! You waited too long. But I would try that. Otherwise you’re banging your head into the wall.
