Hello all. I want to mention that if you subscribe to ESPN+ expecting to get games on ABC you may be disappointed. You still must have another cable/streaming service and will be required to provide login info for whatever service you use in order to watch. I was sorely disappointed last year when I paid the $12 subscription price last year thinking I could watch FSU/LSU only to find that because I don’t have cable/paid streaming that I still couldn’t watch the game. I immediately cancelled. There are some lower level games available but if you expect to watch UGA/Clemson on espn+ this weekend just know that you won’t be able to watch it without an existing cable/streaming sub (unless they have changed since last year, which I highly doubt).
I live in an area that requires an outdoor antenna and was trying to avoid installing one- looks like I’ll have to after all. Ridiculous in 2024 local live streams still aren’t readily available online for free and every time someone tries to make them accessible the big networks sue them into oblivion.
You’re right – ESPN+ is both a great resource for watching college football AND a source of frustration and annoyance.
For big SEC, ACC or Big Ten games that are broadcasted on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network, etc … it’s frustrating because a paid subscription for ESPN+ doesn’t offer you access to those channels.
On the other hand … it can be a great resource for watching games live for fans of teams in conferences like the Sun Belt or Conference USA. In many cases, those games were not set to be televised on traditional TV channels and now are available for the ESPN+ monthly fee.
I feel your pain re: outdoor antenna.
I’ve been working on some articles to help people save some money while watching college football this season. While there are some free and cheap ways to do it, oftentimes people find that they’re simply going to have to pay a live TV streaming service to get access to the games they want to see most.
One thing to keep an eye on this fall is the future of Venu Sports. It was supposed to be an “all-sports” streaming service that gives you all the big channels for $42.99 per month, but a legal dispute has that product on hold at the moment.
