I recently submitted an application for a new passport (not renewal) at my local post office. From the day I submitted it at the post office until receiving the passport booklet in the mail was 14 days. The passport card came three days after that. This was without expedited service.
That’s encouraging. I am going to try and submit mine online in August.
Yes, I applied last summer (2024)… just mailed in an application. Not expedited. I got my passport back in about 25 days. Pretty darn good. Especially considering mailing from AZ to PA and back. Cheers. 
I recently discovered that my passport had expired just a few days prior. I went online, filled out the application, took a selfy photo that met their requirements and entered my payment information. The website said to expect it in 6 to 7 weeks; it arrived 10 days later. Very efficient for a government department!
