Nice new benefits from Fidelity Rewards 2% cash back Visa (by Elan)

Clark mentioned it in his newsletter. I have this card, they added nice things at a time when card issuers have been cutting back.

Visa Signature Rewards

Paying $100 for TSA Precheck or Global Entry

Auto Rental Collision Coverage (but, this is secondary, unlike the Amex program which you pay for, which is primary)

They have other things, you can look at the link above. This is my #1 card. I love getting 2% cash back and no annual fee.

It is my favorite card as well. I did not read the updated benefits. I hope the Rental Collision coverage is easier to claim than USAA Visa’s.

Not familiar with TSA Recheck or Global entry. How good a deal is $100?

I think the entire fee has been $100 so the benefit covers it.

Whoops it’s now $120 for Global Entry. It was $100 the last time I had it.

“The cost of TSA PreCheck depends on which enrollment provider you use. It costs $78 to submit a TSA PreCheck application at an Idemia enrollment center or $85 at a Telos enrollment center. There are more than 600 Idemia locations and only 26 Telos locations”

I have the Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature Card that touts 2% cash back on rewards deposited into eligible Fidelity accounts. However, based on the amount that was redeemed into my eligible Fidelity account, it was actually 1%. When I questioned it, I was told that this card earns 2 points for each $1 in net purchases and Cash back into a Fidelity account will redeem at 1% (2,500 points = $25). Statement credits will redeem at a .5% valve (2,500 points = $12.50). So, how is the statement that this card is a 2% cash back rewards card? Am I missing something? I redeemed 12,064 points into my Fidelity brokerage account. If you are supposed to earn 2% cash back if redeemed into a Fidelity account, shouldn’t I have earned $241.28? However, I only earned $120.64.

Here’s what I see on a recent statement…

New Spending minus Other Credits (refunds, returns, etc): $5,862.85
Rewards Earned: 11726

I observe that points go into my Fidelity account at 1 point = $0.01

So rewards rate is indeed 2.00%

Yeah, I was looking at it from the prospective of total points and not total dollars. So, if I earned 2 pts for every $ spent, then 2% of $6,032(12,064/2) is $120.64. It would be easier just to say that you earn 2% on net dollars spent if deposited to a Fidelity acct, etc..

This used to be my #1 card. It’s a good card, I still have it, but what I don’t like about the Elan/Fidelity card is that if you have multiple authorized users, all charges are lumped together on the bill. NFCU gives each user their own card #, and charges are broken out by user/#. If you have people with a card who reimburse you (e.g. kids), it’s much easier w/ a card like the Navy FCU 2% card, where every user gets their own #.

Also, NFCU gives you the cash back as you earn it vs Elan/Fidelity after you pay your bill (and only deposited it into a Fidelity brokerage account).
