New Shell Credit Card has another big catch

Clark’s email from today (3/22/26) had an article about Shell’s new credit card having a big catch, which turned out to be restrictions on how the rewards can be used, and that they expire. However, this card has another big caveat that will probably be a deal-breaker for me.

I have had a Shell MasterCard for over a decade, but this month it was moved from Citi to something called Imprint. The gotcha for me is that they require you to give them your banking information for payments. If you do not (and I will not), they will use your bank’s online bill-pay system, but only with your bank mailing them a paper check. They do not accept those payments electronically, which makes hitting a fixed due-date difficult. I hope that changes eventually, but until it does, I will not be using this card.

Another card Clark recommends, the Citi Double Cash, has started requiring paper checks as well from our bank (Schwab). The first month they required it we were not informed ahead and were worried the check would be late (it wasn’t). Since then we have to pay the balance immediately to make sure it gets there in time. I assume this is the reason they do this - wanting you to pay it early or hoping the check doesn’t clear in time and you owe interest.

folks,I’ve been with shell since the 70’s when it was a debit card per se. then credit cards with shell i had from the very beginning. this imprint outfit is a joke. no human most ot the times to talk with and the Ai agent keeps looping the same speech when you ask for customer service and/or a human. it hung up on me once. left a message, allowed, about 7-10 days ago and then 3 days ago and still no response. then today they told me today that i didn’t have an account with them, specifically no password to link to my email when in fact i set it up in May before they went live on May 18th, 2026. This card is horrible ref service. My chip is apparently bad and they’ve told me a new card does not get received for 7-10 days. odd since the rest of the credit card world is quick, sometimes 1-2 days for a replacement. Shell gas in Alabama is not cheap and the best fuel discounts are now gone with the prior banks/shell cards. Think Exxon/Mobil/Esso and Circle K will remain my friends since immediate discount at the pump of 10 cents vs the1 or 2 cents more for an average person is not a bad deal. if not a corporate or business account, you should be ok. Imprint is a new company, i think maybe 2024 that’s now a big player it appears. Something’s up with these folks. Goodbye Shell, once i find a regular Mastercard or Visa replacement.
