Mandatory tips on credit card charge

I recently went to a Cowboy Football game. I ordered a canned beer at a kiosk. Presented a credit card for payment and found the amount on the terminal required a choice of one of three tip percentages. There was no “custom tip” or “no tip” selection offered. Beer price said nothing of additional charge.

Since the vendor is cash-less, I am curious how to opt-out of a tip for opening the can of beer. Further, I think this is deceptive and ought to be illegal.

Your thoughts?

Remember the quote from “War Games”. When the computer simulation of war showed no winner, the answer is: “The only winning move is not to play”

If enough people load items into the kiosk and then cancel, the provider may soon get the idea why.

I have canceled transactions like this the few times I encountered them.

While it may not cause the provider to stop what they are doing it at least gives me the satisfaction of knowing I am not being ripped-off.

The problem is: When you want a beer, you want a beer!

And therein lies part of the problem. Places know some people will accept being forced to tip, even though they do not want to, simply because the desire for what they want.

I am not saying you are wrong glasspilot. There is no right or wrong answer. You make the decision to accept or decline their forced tipping based on what you want.

I will say that I agree with Lavarock’s assertion “𝙄𝙛 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙞𝙤𝙨𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙡, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙮 𝙨𝙤𝙤𝙣 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖 𝙬𝙝𝙮.”
