KTVU: "Self-checkout machines now ask for tips in latest squeeze on customers"

My wife and I were just talking about this and how they’re being used more and more. I feel for businesses stretched for help & I know a lot of people who work in businesses that use these kiosks. While I appreciate innovation, keeping costs down and dealing with the shortage of workers we’ve agreed we will continue to tip pretty much like we did pre Covid generally for the same services we always have. Maybe one exception: restaurants…very hard work and still not compensated enough. Anyway, to your point these things are sometimes tricky to navigate. Just recently while trying to pay the “other” tip amount was near impossible to find (we were tipping cash). I don’t mind using these kiosks but stupid obstacles like that don’t help this movement.

Can you enter a Negative tip if you did self check-out?
