We’ve had a Chase IHG (no yearly fee) for several years and love it. Always upgrades if available, yearly free nights and good point accumulation. We are very careful about checking out the Hotels we book as some are better than others. For most of our travel the Holiday Inn Express have been wonderful. Also the Kimpton and Indego. Going to Europe soon and not paying for 5 nights because of our IGH card!
It’s nice to hear somebody is having success with a hotel points credit card!
My husband has a Chase Marriott Bonvoy credit card which should earn him points with Marriott hotels, but for some reason, the points accumulated on the card do not transfer to points on the hotel loyalty account. He has tried to fix this online and has called twice.
The first time they said the problem is his name on the CC does not match his name on the Marriott account. This is bogus since he always fills out forms using his full name, and for some reason the CC company chose to abbreviate his first & middle names on the card, so of course they don’t match. He had to submit a name change form, even though the name he submitted was the same as the one he gave them initially. In the same phone conversation, the CC rep manually sent the points to his Marriott account.
Now we have the same problem again, despite the names matching. He called again, talked to one person, who sent the problem to his boss, who escalated it again, and now we have a reference number to use when we inquire again if somehow they aren’t able to fix the problem.
So check to make sure your hotel loyalty account gets credited with the points you earn on the credit card.
I think my Chase Marriott Bonvoy Rewards card is great. I pay an annual fee of $95 and receive a free night credit each year. I’ve used that free night credit without any hassles, typically for a room that runs $225-$300 a night, saving me a significant amount.
