Home insurance claim for roof

Hello,

My home insurance company told me I had to replace my roof or they would drop me. I did replace it. $19,500. Then, they were a pain about me documenting proof. I’m thinking about dropping them out of principle. I already have a quote from another company. Do I file a claim for the roof since they made me do it, then drop them? I’m trying to think about how this could backfire.

Thanks,

Paul

More and more insurers are reducing coverage or dropping people with an older roof. If you file a claim it is doubtful that they would pay for it.

Roof repair is typically covered for storm damage, not for age or condition. So your company requiring replacement is not grounds for a claim. If you have a better company in mind, sure, change. But be sure to first do your research on that company.
