I’m in rural Alabama about 60 miles from Birmingham, we have chicken houses all around us and eggs are still selling for $4.97 at Walmart, around /$5.50 at Aldi, it makes no sense other than just plain old corporate greed and bird flu marketing and pandering to fears. Personally, unless I HAVE to bake something for a birthday, event, etc., I am choosing to NOT BUY EGGS until they come to their senses. I don’t want this to become like so many things post-pandemic where it became the “new normal” and it takes years to return to normal. Pepsi was a great example, they kept raising prices up & up until they were up to something like $12 a 12 pack just to see what the market would bear, their customers FINALLY HAD ENOUGH and many of even their upper income buyers just said no and sales plummeted. They eventually started coming back down and now have closer to normal prices but unfortunately, MOST Americans won’t just stop buying products when companies do this junk to them, they take it for long times like an abused spouse. smh. I would urge folks to just stop buying unless you HAVE TO and see how long it takes for the “flu” to go away.
Today the house brand eggs were $4.99, down from $6.99 last week. But they had a different brand of “free range” eggs and those were $7.99, which is UP from $3.99 last week. They also had “grade B” medium eggs for $4.49.
