my daughter went to a doctor who took what medicare should have paid up front, and medicare said never to do that as they will pay. Now the doctor will not pay it back, even though medicare is paying.
Suggest to your daughter that she tell her doctor on her next visit with them. Make it an “oh, by the way” thing.
i have always thought that the doctors were not allowed to double dip.
Your daughter can call her State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) for assistance.
I would definitely report that doctor to as many places as possible.
I’m not sure if the following is a viable suggestion or not but if her daughter paid with a credit card and she has proof of what the doctor did she might want to think about a charge back.
Did the doctor’s office give any explanation as to why they wanted paid up front?
we were thinking we have not met deductibles, but would they collect twice? it was 250.00
where do you report medicare fraud
The U.S. Attorney’s Office would be the first place I would recommend but unfortunately the way things are going right now I’m not sure that would do you much good. You could try contacting various legitimate consumer organizations. Maybe they could put you on the correct path.
Medicare has a fraud reporting number 1-800-633-4227. I would consider first calling the State Health Insurance Assistance Program to see if they have simpler suggestions for resolving the situation with the physicians office.
