Looking for advice, and quickly. On Friday we picked up a brand new minivan from a local Honda dealer. On Monday we got a call asking if our vehicle was wet inside. It was. I noticed when unpacking the floor mats and license plate kits in the plastic bags (as they come from the factory) in the trunk that the plastic bags had water droplets on them. I just assumed they had shampooed the carpets or had gotten wet when the dealer was getting the car ready for us. The Monday call noted someone from Honda corporate had told the dealer they sent some vans with leaking seals around the tailgate door. Ours was one of them. The dealer is refusing to give us another van and said the max they will do is fix the gasket. But how do I know if there was extensive damage to electrical, wiring, etc.? I’m very concerned as I know the van was assembled in Alabama and likely was in the Gulf area during the recent hurricane rains. There is no 30 day return policy at the dealer. What can I do? Contact an attorney?
I think you are getting ahead of yourself. Let them fix the gasket and then monitor the situation. Likely everything will be fine. It’s a brand new van. It’s under full warranty. If it does have problems they will have to fix them. Worst case your states lemon laws would kick in.

Honda is a first rate outfit. If your dealer won’t help you, escalate to Honda Corporate HQ. Always go to the top, let them deal with the dealer. We went to the CEO of our major energy supplier when the locals ruined our lawn. Two weeks later the corporate attorney called me and sent us a check to repair the lawn. Works every time (lawyers not needed). An article in your local newspaper or posting on social media are also vehicles (pun not intended) that work.
