Credit Card 5% cash back secrets

I’m a renter with good credit and I appreciate any good cash back cards. I’m able to get 5% back on 3 major expenses using cards that aren’t too popular, all no-fee. First, amazingly, the AAA Daily Advantage VISA Signature gives you 5% at groceries all the time, 3% gas & electric charging. Next, the US Bank Cash+ gives you back 5% in 2 categories you choose per quarter. I use it for utilities/TV cable +streaming. And last, the Citi Custom Cash automatically determines your top spending category for the billing cycle, applying 5% cash back. I only use it for restaurants & bars (same category).

My spouse and I each have our own Citi Custom cash card account. We dedicate one for our restaurant spending and one for grocery spending. 5% back on restaurants and groceries up to $500 spend on each category. Assuming we max that combined spending out to $1,000, we get $50 back every month, so over the course of a year, we get $600 cash rewards. Easy peasy!

Heads up that Walmart is gonna offer a 5% cash back rewards card in the fall.

Thanks for sharing! I already use the Citi Custom Cash card for restaurants, like you. We have Winco for groceries in town, and 5% cash back anywhere else is still more expensive than using debit-card at Winco (they don’t take credit cards). But I’ll look into the US Bank card you mentioned and see if it fits any “category spending” my wife and I do. I have to limit the number of cards, since she HATES juggling between them based on where they are used.. And I’m fine with that.
