Would love to hear from folks in the Atlanta area who are using an attic TV antenna: (1.) how many channels to you get? (2.) Reception? (3.) Cost? (4.) Brand(s) to consider, brands to avoid? Thank you.
A lot of this depends on your topography (there are web tools that will show you how well you will do). I tried this many years ago - 10+? I live 2 miles south of Lake Lanier. My two story house is on some high ground and faces directly south, so I tried two antennas in the attic. I tested first pointing an antenna out the window. Mixed results. I could get some channels and they came in very clear. The antennas are relatively inexpensive.
I think I would have gotten better results mounting the antenna to my chimney, but I would have to hire someone to do that. If you go that route, make sure you ground the antenna to handle any lightning strikes.
Thank you!
We are in a weird situation. All over the air channels we can get are luckily at the same transmitting site (atop a mountain 124 miles away). An indoor antenna works for those people who have direct line of sight with no obstructions.
This site will show which direction the stations are from you.

Then search for best indoor antennas if that is what you can use. Understand that the house will attenuate signals so an outdoor antenna is best in places where your received signal is low.
I;m about 40 mile north of Atlanta. I’ve got a pretty big antenna outside. We can pick up somewhere around 50 channels. We have had it for years, don’t remember the brand, cost was less than $100, installed myself. Although I stream, it’s still hooked up and can use by pushing a couple of buttons.
Thank you for the great information.

Our current antenna is the largest size that fit in our attic. We live in a medium size city and receive signals from over 50 stations including digital subchannels. Check antennaweb.org for your location. The picture quality is excellent (the major network stations all within 15 miles of our location) except for major storms when we experience pixel loss or complete signal loss usually for a few seconds.
Thank you!
