Wealth distribution in America…

An interesting read that puts a bit of perspective on a topic without making judgments or drawing conclusions. Just food for thought.

It sounds about right… and the divide is increasing exponentially.

If you distributed it evenly among total taxpayers (154,000,000) it would be more than twice the per-capita amount (340,000,000 / 154,000,000 = 2.2

That means each taxpayer would have $1,037,223 net worth, ($471,465 x 2.2) and a couple filing jointly would have $2,074,446.

That might lead one to believe that in the U.S., at least, there is “enough to go around,” in fact. And it also softens the biblical mandate, “The poor are with you always”. But I’m not naive enough to think that’s economically feasible in the real world. Someone could also conclude that the historic imbalances helped create the energy and inventiveness to generate the huge national wealth.
