Warning: Never Get Roadside Assistance From Your Insurance Provider

This is counter to what was told to me when I called them. They said it would not affect my rates and that has been my experience with three Tows and one Jump Start over a 20 year period. Just sayin.

There is a data base somewhere that gives all insurance companies access to all your claims. I think I got access from Clark but can’t remember. Anyway I looked myself up and sure enough every claim including roadside was on there even when I just had AAA for roadside.

Insurance rates have just gone nuts. I dropped Earth Quake ($80k deductible,$1k/yr premium) and Flood in Ca. and raised all my auto deductibles to $1k , that has helped some with the rates. My Umbrella has gone up 30%. I do everything I can to avoid a Claim, haven’t had one ,with the exception of Roadside , in 50 years. Just figuring I’m more “Self Insured “ now.

My experience with USAA has been great , but that’s probably because I haven’t had much “experience” with them and I don’t want to.

What no one tells you, if you have AAA insurance, is that you have to get their roadside service, or they will cancel you. That happened to me - I got that warning…

Does anybody ever use AMAX card referral for roadside assistance? Compared to calling AAA myself, are there any benefits to this? I will try to avoid using insurance companies roadsid assitance at a 100%.

It may vary based on either the insurance company or state law, but I’ve used roadside assistance from USAA many times over the last 45 years, and it has never affected my rates.
