Unusual Microsoft Outlook request on my smartphone email app

Clicked on my Outlook app on my Samsung smartphone last night and a prompt popped up about something in Germany with my Outlook and a set of numbers and whether I could deny or approve. I pressed the deny link. I had tried to close the app and re-open it and the scam/phishing/hack prompt would still appear until I pressed the deny link. I have never seen anything like this before. May be a latest scam thing and since I got a new cellphone in July, it may have finally made its rounds to my phone. The pop up was a box and blocked access to the Outlook app otherwise. I wish I took a photo of it with my wife’s phone but it was late and I just wanted to get rid of the thing.

That sounds possibly super bad. They classic phishing attack is to scare you enough into doing something, in your case you pressed a LINK. This could have downloaded malware onto your phone. You need to do a factory reset on the phone and start from scratch installing everything all over again, or at least run good antivirus on the phone immediately. Also go to your regular computer and change ALL of your passwords with money or credit behind them. Do it now.

Never, ever respond to an unanticipated message. Ignore, delete, mark as spam in your email or message app.

NEVER CLICK ON LINKS

Thanks. Changed passwords for Microsoft and a few bank related websites I use my phone for. Going to the local Verizon to see if they can scan or do a reset or help in any fashion.

In general, I think I should have restarted my phone when I saw that (probable) scam attack and not clicked on the link. Wondering how something like that could get into my Outlook app to begin with.

Even if you think it’s a legitimate email it’s safer to go directly to their website and not use a link. I do that with most of my emails except the ones I know are scams. If it’s really important they will let you know.
