No signs’ housing affordability will improve for buyers in near future

Just shy of $200K income needed in Cal.

On a recent podcast, Clark talked about a way to speed up home building to make more homes available to home buyers. One thing that was not mentioned is the process for getting building permits. We had a house built and the contract was written in May. Building could not start until September because of the process of obtaining building permits. Once building started, the process was fast. The builder was a real pro at getting contractors on site and on time to make sure the schedule did not slip. He made sure inspections were done properly and on time.

Our house was not a custom-built home. Most new homes today are standard “cookie cutter” type homes. Why does it take more than 4 months to get permits? If the permitting process could speed up, maybe the we could get more homes up faster.
