Is it really worth getting insurance, or am I just overthinking it?

I’ve been thinking a lot about getting insurance lately as i want to be more financially secure and prepared for unexpected situations. i have been experiencing confusion about which type of insurance actually makes sense and whether it’s worth the cost in the long run. i went through information from trusted sources but i’m still not fully confident about making the right choice.

however, i am having trouble understanding what kind of coverage i actually need and i would love to get your advice and hoping maybe some experienced people or professionals can also share their insights.
i usually just want something that can protect me in emergencies without being too expensive or complicated. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

If you own a home or drive insurance is a must unless you’re incredibly wealthy.

If you rent most landlords require renters insurance.

Health insurance is a must as an illness or injury could wipe you out.

So in answer to your question, yes it’s worth getting insurance.

Are you talking about life insurance? The only reason to buy life insurance is to protect others in case you die. Are you married? Have children? If not, you don’t need life insurance. If you do only buy term life insurance. It’s cheap insurance assuming you are younger and healthy. Permanent or whole life policies are a bad investment. There are much better ways to invest that money.

thanks for the replies, this actually helped clear things up a lot for me. i think i was overcomplicating it before and trying to figure out everything at once.

it makes sense now that some types of insurance are basically essential depending on your situation, like health insurance, car insurance if you drive, and renters insurance if required. i didn’t fully realize how important those are for protecting against big unexpected costs.

also really appreciate the clarification about life insurance. i don’t have dependents right now, so it sounds like it’s not something i need to focus on yet, but it’s good to know that term life is the better option if that situation changes in the future.

overall this gives me a much clearer direction, i’ll start by focusing on the basics first instead of trying to get everything at once.

I felt the same way before getting insurance, but starting with basic coverage like health or term life helped me feel more secure without spending too much. It might be worth beginning with essential protection and adjusting later as your needs become clearer.

One thing to think about regarding life insurance is if you die how will those left behind pay for your funeral? I know you’re not going to die, at least not for a long time but things happen. Your foresight in getting cheap term insurance might save your family a lot of heartache. Term ins works just like auto ins. If you stop paying, coverage cancelled. Funerals in PA can run 5k on up. Better yet tell what you would like…cremation, whole body burial…

Geeze if you don’t have a few thousand dollars left in your estate when you die you have really failed at life. Even if you have to draw down all your assets to have medicaid take over payment for a nursing home you are still allowed to keep a few thousand dollars. Cremation is under $2k.

Those life insurance policies they hawk to old people on TV count on people making payments for a few years and then dropping it. That’s how they make their money.

Yes—basic insurance is worth it for major risks; just keep it simple and affordable.
