This article is now a year old and this problem is still getting no attention in the press. My daughter’s car has been stuck in this mess for 3 months. The dealer can’t fix it without Hyundai approving a new engine and Hyundai keeps delaying and asking for more tests. I have met three others in the same boat, one of whom has been without their car for a year.
There are various class action settlements with Kia and Hyundai but they are very limited whereas the serious engine problem is across almost their entire line of cars. I don’t understand why people like Clark aren’t talking more about it.
Yea, that is how it starts. Then it gets worse to where you lose power and the car will barely go. The dealer says we need a new engine but Hyundai wont approve it under either the powertrain warranty or the recall. It’s outrageous what they are doing. They make some really nice, affordable cars but I can’t do business with them ever again unless they apologize and make this right for everyone. It’s so pervasive I am
It sure they can afford to fix it.
I don’t have my extended warranty in front of me, but it says I have been extended to lifetime powertrain warranty. Was yours the “Theta II engine class action lawsuit”?
I think so. I am getting some info 3rd hand so am not sure. It is a 2017 Tucson.
Mine is limited to damage related to connector rod bearing failure. Maybe I don’t have coverage. I need to talk to them, though. If I do ever have it rebuilt, I’ll certainly submit a claim regardless.
