AP: "How are people supposed to rebuild Paradise, California, when nobody can afford home insurance?"

My step daughter lived in Paradise for years. Loved it, but family broke up so she left about three months before the fire.

A couple weeks later, I drove there with her to pick some things she left with a neighbor. We stayed at a very rustic, Western theme motel and had a wonderful dinner. So we were in Paradise two months before the fire.

We followed news of the fire in real time around here, and then aerial videos after the fire. Her house, the neighbors house, and motel and restaurant…
…all gone. Just slabs and brickworks were left.

It was staggering to see.
