Working Before FRA Partial Year

Pardon me if I asked this before (I’m not sure).

In 2024 I see you can make 22,320 a year before penalty if you collect SS.

My question is, what if you start collecting mid year ? Like if you made over that half the year and then throttled down after you start collecting (working part time).

Do they count the whole year ? or just when you started collecting ? (like per month ?)

When I retired 5 years ago, it was by the month if started during the year.

Im pretty sure that is one of the questions answered on the Ask Larry page on Maximize My Social Security. It used to be also answered on the ssa website, but theyve changed alot of what is easily available over the last few years.
