For the record, Clark Howard has brought up the Social Security situation in the recent past.
No surprise here…the design of the program is poor and no one is willing to fix the root cause of the problem. Our population is living longer and the birthrate continues to decline. That is a bad combination for Social Security. We also know that politicians are not going to fix the problem until 2033 because their main objective is to stay elected, not to solve problems.
Everyone should budget to only receive about 75% of promised benefits. It’s just a clustercuss. When it happens, it’s going to cause a massive amount of upheaval in society. The worsening debt crisis and this one are going to collide head-on in the early 2030s.
Again… this is why I have non-US stocks, bonds, and also gold and other investments linked to hard commodity assets that have intrinsic value outside of financial markets.
Clark is too conservative when he tells people to not have more than 5% gold. People should have 10%+, although one could argue that it’s maybe too late to buy it.
Why the hell are you quoting NewsNation? It’s a total right wing wacky bin. Wise up!
As opposed to a left wing demonic bin?
Hmmm… “experts” urge?
I can’t decide if the term “Social Security Experts” would be just a select few people or if everyone is one, or, maybe it’s everyone with a fifth-grade education and a calculator. ![]()
Maybe the act of being elected to congress wipes out your ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Seriously, do you watch it? You can’t be a serious person if you even tune in to such crap.
Indeed. A problem that has spanned decades…
When asked what keeps him up at night, Elon Musk replied “the declining birthrate and the possible demise of humanity because of it.”
It is deadly to government pay-as-you-go schemes like SS and Medicrap. Can’t tax the smaller number of workers enough to pay for the benefits promised to us old people. As true here as it is in Europe and Japan. Even China has birthrate problems. It is easier to prevent or abort births than raise children, apparently.
About 1960 a friend told me that I would never see any Social Security money because it’s a Ponzi scheme.
My wife and I have been on Social Security for more than 20 years.
