Do I still get the extra 1% if I pay balance before receiving the statement?
Good question. I often prepay when making a large charge such as my insurance or a trip and always assume yes.
I do believe we don’t get the other 1% if we apply credit to a balance or to a purchase with the card.

Yes, you get the 1% when you pay any balance before or after the statement. If you return an item and get a credit for that then you obviously won’t get any rebate on that amount.
