I pay $530 a month to Comcast for internet and 6 phone lines for my small business. Comcast Business has unacceptable service outages, despite their advertising to the contrary.
A Verizon rep came by the other day offering $230 a month for the same services wirelessly. The signal is broadcast by cell towers and would be picked up by some sort of receiver in my office. A modem would split the signal into phone plus Internet.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it reliable, and the voice quality good?
I don’t have VOIP phones, and don’t want to switch to them. I don’t know if they are required for this wireless service or not.
This is Verizon 5G. If you are using Comcast/Xfinity for your phones today you are using VOIP. Practically every business today uses VOIP.
Because it’s wireless it’s easy to do a trial. Run it parallel to your current setup. If it works great. If not, they can remove the boxes and you can continue on your current setup.
The future is wireless not fiber. 5G today. In a few years 6G, 7G, etc.
No, I do not have VOIP phones. A modem in the basement splits the cable signal into analog phone lines + internet. Don’t know if wireless 5G could do the same thing. $300 cost savings per month would be a big help for my business.
Yes, 5G fixed wireless/business internet from Verizon. Some people I know switched to it for cost reasons when their cables kept coming out.Reliability is highly dependent on signal strength and tower congestion in your area. The best solution is to run parallel with Comcast for a week or two before canceling. Most of these gateways can be connected to regular analog phone lines, so a VoIP phone may not be necessary. Please check with the person in charge.Savings of $300 per month are worth testing carefully.
