# Southern Company profits soar 43% as customers feel pain of rate hikes

For those here in GA, here is why your electric bill is so outrageous. They try to tell you it is inflation, but after gouging us for years to pay for the overpriced, over budget, years late Vogtle Nuclear plant, now we have to pay the bonuses of the execs for doing such a “great” job. GA Power stinks!!!

Truly disgusting! Taxpayers will bail out the Votgle fiasco, and SC will keep rolling in the $$$, because they bought off the public service commission!

It’s not just SO, here in NY Con Edison has raised energy rates significantly over the years, despite the fact that we buy energy supply (nat gas and elec) from independent suppliers. Most disturbing is that our bill includes **fees for delivery** of the energy we use that are in some cases 50-60% of the monthly bill. Energy suppliers (ExxonMobil,CVX, etc) now reap obscene profits with gasoline nearly $4/gallon.
