My grocery store has an app with coupons that can be applied. I still compare prices, but I like it because if I’m looking for say bacon…I bring it up, look for bacon and ‘clip’ any coupons. Then I look for the lowest prced bacon. I like that because I’m bad about making a shopping list but if I am in the aisle and clip it and it’s automatically applied at checkout.
Simple… my wife does all the grocery shopping! ![]()
Eat Leftovers!
Today I went to a high-end grocery store I only go to a few times a year. I needed a particular product I couldn’t find elsewhere. As long as I was there, I perused most of the aisles. Bought some specialty cheeses. And noticed they had some very high quality prepared meals (fresh, put together, but not yet cooked). $ price was more than if I made from scratch, but less than from a restaurant. And I eat out way too often. When I was cooking for a whole family, that made more sense, but now that I am mostly cooking for just myself, and therefore eating out. Maybe purchasing a few prepared meals a week makes sense.
Not just on groceries, but anything we consume (paper towels, toothpaste, etc.), we do our best to completely empty the container. For instance, in the past, when it got hard to get more mustard out of the bottle, we would have tossed it. Now, we flip it upside down to see if we can get just a LITTLE bit more. Maybe get the little tiny spatulas out and scrape the inside of the bottle to see if I can make just one more sandwich.
It’s pretty much turned into a game around our hose now.
I’m 68 now, when I was young my Mom used to say: “We were depression babies! Clean your plate!”. The implication being “No waste in this house!” I’m pretty much still this way.
My Dad was into recycling back in the early 70’s. In Rochester, NY, in our neighborhood, there was a town recycling yard just up the street. Once a month my Dad would fill the car and take me up to the yard. I guess I got the habit from him. Here where I live in NC I have a yard just 1 mile from my house. They’ll take just about anything.
See my post in NOT buying water in the US(unless advised in a place such as in Flint , MI) ever!!!
Whether you buy it or not is an IQ test.
#BonusTerm - “Thin-flation.” Anybody else notice that cereal boxes get “thinner” all the time? Pretty soon, we’ll have “cereal envelopes.” Lol.
P.S., I hope this fits the category half decently. Huge fan of Clark.com. Cheers.
Tim, manufacturers have been using this technique for decades. Coffee cans get smaller, and other items too. I’m “Clarksmart”, I look at the price under the item and look for price per ounce or price per pound. You mentioned cereal. With the price of cereal these days you would think the box was filled with Gold! I always buy the store brand cereals, just like Clark!
