It’s very difficult to anticipate real world load, so it’s very typical to do extensive testing and still hit issues moving to production. I see it every day.
unproven allegations of rampant fraud.
This says it all how impartial and reliable this “news” site is…
I have tried finding the proof on the DOGE website and all I can find is a bunch of links that don’t work and screenshots on a “wall of receipts” And I can accept some hiccups when working with systems, but when someone says they and some kids who can’t order a beer at a bar will rewrite the entire social security program in “a few months”, it scares me a litle.
It is a scientific fact a male’s brain isn’t completely matured until the age of 25, and yet they are dealing with some extremely important, and in some cases life altering information.
Nope… I post it because people are prone to make assumptions about people making headlines about things that matter. It’s not often that you get a chance to get the straight unbiased scoop on someone claiming legitimacy while wrecking critical institutions in our country.
The book was written by a recognized expert biographer, approved by Musk himself and was written before Musk got involved in the current political mess we find ourselves in. If you are interested in documented facts about the weird background and psyche of a major player in our world, maybe you should consider reading it.
How about this then…I am concerned that a middle aged drug addict may be setting them up for failure. I never said that they couldn’t handle this sort of job. They very well could if they are not under the gun by a man they admire very much who promises their job will be done in “a few months”.
Mr Musk doesn’t care if a “hiccup” in a system that millions of people rely on wreaks havoc on their lives. After all, empathy is the biggest weakness in western civilization, and when the people doing the work, who are in awe of the greatness of the man leading their team, may put more emphasis on speed rather than accuracy. Also..they MIGHT be of the mindset that Social Security won’t be there for them so who cares if some “boomers” (and I would bet many SS recipients have been called this by DOGE staff) miss a check or two.
My criticism is of their leader…and that the followers of this man feel he is a rich genius and want to emulate him, might adopt some of his bad habits.
There’s a thing called “transfer bias” in which a person who has a proven performance record in one particular area assumes that they are capable of similar performance in another area of expertise. This leads to the prevalence of framing errors, (seeing things in an improper or inaccurate contextl.)
A person who is very skilled at solving business problems by applying math and programming skills as an effective solution might be totally inadequate when it comes to handling customer relations and marketing.
But it’s often the case, short of a spectacular failure, that they fail to see their shortcomings.
In my experience, I would say this is somewhat the norm. I work for a company filled with very smart people technically, but many of them you would not necessarily put in front of a customer. The people who interact with customers are less technical. Many young people take on big roles in technology companies, generally due to being absolute rock stars. That’s facts for working in technology.
It might be an optimistic timeline, but it’s not unrealistic. I’m sure they are not talking about old school development. It sounds like the perfect opportunity for AI to show what it can do.
They will be able to leverage their understanding of the data from their DOGE reporting. AI can analyze the existing code and replicate the use cases. They will have a “working” system they can use for testing.
The change described in the article is enforcing security checks that are made by querying an external system. It sounds like the bottleneck is the external system cannot handle the load.
This is the sort of issue that happens all day, every day in large computer systems. Despite even the best of efforts, it’s not possible/practical($) to recreate the world, and these issues are only found in production. Perhaps AI can change that.
While the article may be accurate reporting, it doesn’t understand complex software systems. It’s more of the same: spreading fear and trying to block motivated people from fixing things.
I would prefer that AI gets it’s test on a system that impacts fewer than tens of milliobns of people.
I might more comfortable if I had SOMETHING to help ME understand what DOGE was looking at when they made their decisions to slash and burn. The best I can find is a screenshot on the “wall of receipts”, but I’d really like to see the report that shows me where the DOGE team analyzed the departments that they are slashing, burning and changing. You know - documentation.
Musk has said he doesn’t like reports because they don’t show anything. I guess us old school guys kind of preferred documentation so that when the analyst who did the analysis moves on, the person coming on board has something to help bring them up to speed. Of course AI will already know what they did, and I might be comfortable with that had Microsoft’s AI not turned antisemitic in the course of two hours while it was learning.
I was fascinated with aviation, but I wouldn’t expect to be taken to the cockpit of a jetliner and given the left seat my first day on the job simply because I was a whiz kid in aeronautical theory in college.
Then again…maybe they can rid the world of MAGA if one of their “oversites” results in retired MAGA not getting their Social Security checks for a month or two. Contrary to the admin staffs grandmother not really noticing, a LOT of people…a suprising number of them MAGA voters, DO rely on it.
Many of the DOGE cuts, made at the direction of Elon Musk, continue to be reversed on a daily basis. Many of those mistakes will prove to be very expensive.
The real cost of the damage done by this mis-directed misfit won’t show up for years.
Is it asking to much to share the reports? Because he is on record as saying he doesnt’ like reporting because “it doesn’t do anything”.
Elon may not be the one doing the actual firing - but he has directed someone to do that. I would like to see an analysis of what Doge is doing. The processes used to arrive at making significant cuts in programs AND personell in less that a WEEK. I don’t believe he is genius enough to understand what the programs he cuts do.; And he cut them IN A WEEK! I’m a pretty smart feller…how about I go in and analyze the need for government spending on research into developing a program focused on building a colony on Mars. I bet I could find several billion there alone.
But a funny thing…a hungry kid in Africa (or the US) is wasteful spending. But not a single article or document outlining how much was cut from programs that benefit his companies. For goodness sake - all I have heard for the past 20 years is “global warming is a hoax” and the horrible “green new deal”, but Tesla gets over a billion dollars a year in revenues from the sale of “carbon credits”. and none of that program has been cut. The only cuts impacting any of Elon’s investments has been firing the staff of organizations investigating them.
