Most Disturbing Costco Experience
After a year of experiencing a 50% chance of my bananas never ripening from Costco, I decided to return them in the interest of Quality Control to help the “Powers that Be” report to the distributor the issue. What I was not prepared for was to be sandwiched in the middle of a Mean Girl experience from a Bully Supervisor who decided they were going to make me feel like I was a criminal liar for daring to return Bananas. Everything in this experience was so unnecessary.

When I shared that I felt the bananas were being “over-gassed”, which is why they were never ripening; it instantly set this supervisor off. She in an instant decided I was full of crap based on her lack of scientific or worldly knowledge to understand that ALL bananas are gassed to prevent mold and extend shelf life. She was pissed and was going to make me suffer

She instantly declared “these aren’t OURs”. I said “excuse me” as I was perplexed. It was a huge bunch of bananas. 10 days since purchase. Plus one loose one. I did after day 8 attempt to open one and it was horrible and I tossed it. So I returned all but one. They were obviously “Costco” sized. She then Declared, “where is the band that comes with these”…I shrug “I don’t know. I didn’t intend to have to return these”. She then said she couldn’t take them back as the lack of a band was proof they were not Costco’s.

I had foil wrapped around the stem. That annoyed her. She aggressively removed the foil, and the plastic band she insisted I have fell from under the foil. I said “oh good. Now you have what you need”. Nope! She again repeated "these weren’t bought here and the band proves nothing.

This is when she begins to declare that the bananas are Dole as evidence of the Dole Sticker and that “Costco doesn’t stock Dole” I responded " well you did 10 days ago". She snaps " we’ve never stocked dole".

To prove to me that I was lying, she calls up someone on the radio. Asks them to check to see if they had Dole stock. (Over $1.49). He responds. “Let me check”. She then begins texting on her phone. Then he announces over the radio “no we do not”. At this juncture I have lost my patience. This woman is going to skew facts and stage answers in an attempt to prove something that is patently untrue. -
She, after repeatedly insisting Costco doesn’t sell Dole. Infaticaly declaring over and over that “we don’t carry Dole” she claims, sarcastically and dismissively that “you’ll get YOUR Banana Return” (as if I’m a con artist) …however. I still don’t. As she has to make some dramatic administrative scene to showcase that since she is accepting a return for an item they don’t stock that she has to make a request with the POS gods to grant this miracle return. She then, bizarrely, decides I still havent learned my lesson b/c I still havn’t “admitted” to her that I did not buy the bananas at Costco. So she calls over a coworker. Coworker agrees with her that they don’t sell Dole. And because that wasn’t enough she calls a manager in the radio. Manager, without being briefed, walks right over and looks me directly in the eyes and stares " we don’t stock Dole".

She somehow, without any managers assistance, miraculously figured out how to refund the 1.49. I walk into the warehouse. Go directly to the . And to my utter not surprise the ONLY bananas they stock are Dole!

THE EXTREME COORDINATED EFFORT where a bad-apple crew member can instantly activate a crew of people to blindly support her lies and aggressive gaslighting and bullying of a paying member client is insane. She is proudly spiteful. Rude. Dismissive. And remarkably committed to her manipulation and lies. And 3 other team members blindly played along.
It’s important to note I have NEVER returned produce until this trip.
