I researched the best doorbell camera as i’ve been trying to improve security around my home and keep an eye on deliveries while i’m away. i have been experiencing missed packages, random motion alerts at night, and not knowing who is at the door when i’m busy or not home. i went through reviews from trusted sources like reddit, wirecutter, and consumer reports and after comparing many options these kept coming up as the top choices:

I use Blink (an Amazon product). I have two cameras front and back doors. I have had them for over 4 years. I get a notification on my phone whenever the camera detects motion (even if just a bird flies in front of my camera). If someone comes to my door, I can go to live view and talk to them without having to open my door. As I live in a rural area, I can check in the morning to see if any animals have come up on my porch. There is an annual subscription which is currently $130.00. More cameras can be added but the two work for me.

I’m still mainly comparing the Google Nest Doorbell, eufy Security Video Doorbell, and Blink Video Doorbell because each one seems to have some advantages depending on how you plan to use it.

The comment about hardwiring is especially useful. I do have to decide whether I want a wired setup or the flexibility of a battery-powered option.I’m leaning toward keeping these three on my shortlist for now rather than choosing purely based on price. If anyone has actually used the Nest, eufy, or Blink for a year or more, I’d be especially interested in hearing how reliable they have been and whether the app notifications and motion detection hold up over time.
In addition to the benefits of having a hard wired system, you may have to have your doorbell transformer upgraded to handle the current needed for a video streaming doorbell, so it’s best to consult with an electrician in many cases. Depending on your situation, the electrician may have a favorite recommendation as well.
